Emotion

Example

誰もいない教室で、うしろの窓をたたかれてドキッとした。

In the empty classroom, a knock on the window behind me made my heart jump.

Nuance

Used when you are caught off guard and your heart skips a beat: a sudden noise behind you, an unexpected kindness from someone you like, or a remark that hits a nerve. "Dokidoki" is a heart that keeps pounding; "doki" is a single thump, and it is already over.
